FAQs

Below are a list of frequently asked questions and responses. If you have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

Is there a contingency plan should the COVID-19 pandemic continue to limit in-person programming?

Even though we will be offering an in-person program for Summer 2023, we must follow regulations set by the universities and state and federal governments. If an in-person program is not feasible, we will shift to a remote or hybrid experience.

For what dates should I schedule my arrival and departure?

Summer housing check-in will be available starting two days prior to the start of the program. You must vacate your unit by 11:00 am on the last day of the program.

When and how will I receive my stipend?

Stipends will be issued in three installments during the program. The first installment will be paid early in the program, but can take some time to process, as paperwork and set up protocols need to be completed for those new to Washington University. You can receive your stipend by check or direct deposit.

Is my stipend taxable?

Yes. All program benefits with a monetary value (stipend, housing, etc.) could be considered taxable income and may be subject to tax payments throughout the year. Read this webpage for more information.

What travel expenses are reimbursable?

CEMB will reimburse travel expenses related to moving to and from St. Louis for the summer, up to $600. This includes airfare, ground transportation to and from the airport, checked bags, and/or mileage and hotel should you choose to drive. Exclusions include expenses for individuals who might accompany you and local (St. Louis) mileage during the program.
